19:1138591So, this country now has the security risk from religious groups, (governments and the media call them terrorist groups), raised from real importance to serious or critical. Sorry, is there a difference there? I have mentioned before as to why the word `terror` seems to be such a popular word, rather than `religion`. Bin Laden is, (like it or not), an intelligent man, and intelligent people don`t just go round blowing people up, they have to have a driving force, and as Richard Dawkins so aptly puts it, that driving force is religion. Yes, some are misusing religion for their own ends, but it`s religion at the heart of it all. Why is the media so frightened of using the `R` word. I`m not, or never have been against people believing in things, but let`s have `crystal clear English` within the press and media. I wasn`t coming onto this subject anymore, but I couldn`t help hearing the news on the box earlier which I usually avoid like the plague, for the above reason amongst many.

to do that would be tarring the majority of peace loving religious or faith believers with the same brush as psychopaths.

19:3038593Sorry Howard, I see your point, so perhaps religious idealists would sound better.

20:2338595just as an aside colin, the evidence is that osama is not driven by religious ideals.
right from the beginning, before he became a celebrity, he always aimed at destroying the saudi royal family on the grounds that they were not as devoutly religious as they should be and were corrupt.
realising that this was not enough to attract the gullible to his cause, he then proclaimed that islam was under attack,
only he could lead and promised the newly brainwashed recruits first pick of the totty once they had blown themselves up.
incredibly there are some that go along with it.

20:4238596Thank you Howard, I didn`t know any of that, which is why I avoid politics and tv news, it gets me wound up. Better to stick to subjects I have some knowledge and interest in.

20:4838597we all have our own interests colin, i like to know what goes on in the world.
most of the press and media just go for headline grabbing, i try to read up on what goes on in ordinary peoples lives in different countries, usually that gives clues as to what will be a hotbed of unrest eventually.
national geographic is very good on this, just have to read between the lines sometimes.

18:5538642The WAR ON TERROR is ridiculous. "Terror" is an emotion, you cannot go to war against it. Religion is just ruining the world and should be abandoned. It's had its chances to save mankind over the last several thousand years but has failed and simply divided mankind and is at the root of most conflicts.
Call me whatever you like but religion is stupid, dangerous, and pointless. Well, maybe not pointless, as it gives us something to continue being divided about.

i get the impression that you have grave doubts about your atheism.

19:2138650Colin, James Elroy also avoids computers, news, radios and modern claptrap, and he turns out dark and disturbing books which can fillet your soul!!! I don't think we miss anything if we avoid some of the newsworthy stuff - it probably does us good to do so!!!!
