At this time I am doing a research into Lydden, and I am finding out lot about the parish and its history. Did you know that in 1908 that Lydden had its own Hospital, and that is very true, how it came about was In July of 1908 the Dover area had a particularly severe outbreak of Scarlet fever.
And when a family of Mr V. W, Owen of Stonehall succumbed to the malady,it was found that the Fever Hospital was too full to take them.
To overcome this difficulty the council hired Mr Owen,s cottage as a temporary hospital under Section 131 of the Public Health Act of 1875, and it paid him a rent of £6 aweek for the period the disease lasted.
