    In "The Longest Day" Richard Todd played the part of his own commanding officer from the action he actually took part in. As a side note the late Donald Pleasance who starred in "The Great Escape" was himself once a POW in that camp.
    Todd was one of those great British actors who could be himself yet always make it right for the part. He will be missed.
