Too simple, chaps. As a parent who adheres to the principle of consequences (with overall success, I have to say, despite the usual hiccups!!) it is increasingly challenging to enforce the consequnces when it feels like everywhere else it is a do-as-you-please society where there are no consequences. Home then becomes the "bad" place for those nano-seconds during teenage when parents are The Enemy, and it is vital to keep home as the good place if the communication pathways are to reamin open. Which in turn is vital to prevent further bad behaviour. it is a real tightrope act to keep all those factors together! My kids have had their share of teen-stuff, but have generally come out the other side intact and wiser, but it is not easy, and that is why I would rip the b***s off any one of those adults who peddles drink or drugs to the underage and thinks it is ok. Regardless of the verbal abuse one might get, it is never right to cave in.
