  Sadly Russell Hunter who played Lonely died about five years ago. He was a very good actor - I briefly met him in 2003 in London and had a chat, he was a really nice fellow, very down to earth and full of funny stories.
  
  I vaguely remember getting hooked on Callan when it was repeated in the very early days of Channel 4. Sadly some of the earliest black and white episodes from the first couple of years have been wiped and are gone forever, like so much television of the era.
