06:5728945Such terribly sad news that we have lost the wonderful actor Patrick Swayze to Pancreatic Cancer. Aged 57.
He fought a long battle against the disease.
The ladies will all remember the original "chick flicks" from Patrick Dirty Dancing and Ghost. I know there were many others, but those will be the films he will be remembered for.
RIP Patrick your talent will be sadly missed

07:1328947Yes indeed Mandie - a big shame and he fought it hard and valiantly.
Some cancers get you no matter what and pancreatic seems to be one of the worst ones.
57 is still quite young, but sadly people die at all ages.
A good actor who will be missed.

09:2628952I also heard that Keith Floydd, the flambouyant and well known chef/cook has died - he was 65.
There was a programme about him on Channel 4 last night - full of heavy swearing, but the thing that surprised me (apart from the excessive and extreme swearing) was how old he looked - at least 20 years older than he actually was.
He was a great (TV) chef, passionate about food, but probably more so about drink - red wine mostly.
He was the master of his own (physical) demise, but it is still very sad - a great cook and a great character.

10:1128953Gosh Has Keith Floyd died...well a surpise but hardly surprising. I watched that programme on him last night on C4 and it was an interesting one. Keith meets Keith (Keith Allen, Keith Floyd) but I was shocked at the state poor old Keith F was in. He was living prooof of how a life of excess plays hell with your health, your looks, your image, and your bank balance. I was a fan though, as he really had that devil may care attitude that even the army couldnt cure. They threw him out. A hole host of wives he couldnt get on with either...well it takes its toll....all those women knocking on your door chasing alimony. Roger was right above...he looked ninety even though he was a mere 65

19:0128962I liked Keith Floyd, always ready with a glass of red wine in one hand and a skillet in the other, he was the first of the 'new wave' of flamboyant TV chefs. He not only burnt the candle at both ends, he lit it in the middle as well, I felt sorry for his director who I believe once took over the cooking when Keith went AWOL again.
R.I.P. Keith, thanks for the recipes especially 'Boudin Noir aux Pommes'.
