Thanks very much guys.
Sorry I hadn't been the first to post about it - I meant to early Thursday morning but a BIG Thank You Paul for doing so for me.
I spent literally hours and hours yesterday reading and replying to the many emails of support, sadness and disappointment that I had decided to stop running the Scheme.
KM/FM phoned yesterday asking for info as Graham T. would like to do a story next week, I'll be pleased to read that.
It seems more than a little sad that due to apathy or indifference (are they the same ?) many people didn't use their cards; maybe there weren't the different types of shops they wanted as members; maybe that was because the shops weren't selling the scheme to their customers, so it didn'tr look as if it was working. I don't know the answer, if I did, I'd still be running it.
I do think that if the Scheme had been given more moral and financial support from various quarters, more notice of it would have been taken by the public and businesses.
I now accept that no individual enterprise (unpaid or not) can be a success, it needs the support of a bigger body, whether that body is one of the following: the Town or District Councils or the Harbour Board, or a partnership of all three - £10,000 from each of them would secure the future of any business support body.
I had an offer from a local businessman for an office, a desk, chair, phone etc. for any future initiative - and he wasn't even a member of the Loyalty Scheme, as you can imagine, this was really appreciated; as I said above, it still needs the support of one or more major sponsors.
I hope I won't just fade into the background Kathy - thanks for that. There's so much to do as was evident from last night's Town Council's Corporate Plan discussion.
Without sounding big-headed, all of them could be done relatively easily and I'd love to be given the chance to do them: from dilapidated buildings in Dover; disgraceful closed down shops, weeds in flower boxes, dpac initiatives, tourism, including group travel etc. etc.
Maybe I've upset some people in the past because I've grumbled about things not being done or not happening quick enough, I must have upset someone important at sometime I guess.
