I dont have any figures in front of me but I think it is widely understood that the last government ( Labour ) increased spending on everything... from nurses right across the board to the police, getting more constables into the force and so on. hence the need for cuts now alas, as the spending went through the roof. Frontline services will go as no amount of significant cuts can ever be made without loss of frontline personnel.

Interesting report the other day highlighted the general misunderstanding of policing. People when asked, always want to see bobby's on the beat, however these bobbies are crime preventers and community re-assurers, NOt crime solvers. The crime solving is done by the background boys/girls and is often a message lost on the genral public.

PCSO's ..are presumably a more cost effective way of getting some areas of police work done, and as I say showing a better return on investment....in some areas of police work.
