The much talked about refurbishment on the seafront in Dover is to start soon.
There'll be resurfacing, new "wave walls" new ornamental lighting units and seating - as many of you will have seen.
From the Sea-Sports Centre to Protea House
The start date is the 8th of March and it is anticipated that work will go on until the 30th. of June.
Here's an official description of the work.
"A refurbishment of the Dover Esplanade, adjacent to Waterloo Crescent is planned. It extends from the Dover Sea Sport Centre to the "swimmers" statue.
Funding for the project has been secured from SeaChange, a central government resource aimed at regenerating coastal towns in the UK.
The design consists of three distinct features described as follows:
The Lifting Wave is a series of sculptural ramps and stairs that rise and fall to connect the beach to the Esplanade. The structure is formed with a repeated pattern of textured white pre-cast concrete units.
The Resting Wave is a sculptural retaining wall that provides sheltered spaces along the length of the Esplanade with oak benches. The structure is also formed with textured white precast concrete.
The Light Wave is a sculptural line of white columns that bring improved lighting and safety to the Esplanade. The lights, as well as providing lighting for the promenade, are to be interactive lowenergy LED lights that can be controlled to go on and off to create dynamic wave movement."
Hope it looks as good as it sounds when the job's done.
I'll be circulating 3 pdfs round with various information about this work, if any one would like to be added to my emails address groups (the emails are sent out blind, so no one will see your email address, so you can't get any scam or spam emails from them), please let me know - via email (lindenrog@aol.com)
