I dont know if this story has been done already but it seems that the old nautical warhouse of long long life has decided to hang up its anchor. Yes it appears the veteran transporter, the Pride of Calais, is finishing for ever this saturday. My Gawd it has seen some service. I took a few pictures of her yesterday as she left Dover..symbolic of what she will do this saturday...leave to never return.

I had this info through from a source... written by P&O..

" Time has caught up with this grand old lady, The Pride Of Calais, and she has done us proud. Her final sailing is set to be the 14.50hrs departure from Calais to Dover on Saturday 20 October, due to arrive in Dover at 15.20hrs local time. She'll then be de-stored and sent for lay-up whilst we consider her future.

We've been pondering how many passengers the ship has carried since she came into service in 1987 and the consensus seems to be in the region of 40 million, with superb reliability, and sailing something like 2,500,000 miles. Surely one of the most successful ferries ever built for the Dover Strait. "

Not the most strikingly beautiful ship, a workhorse rather than a derby winner, but one that has given extremely good service. Have never had the pleasure of boarding the vessel and enjoying her crossings myself, not that I remember anyway, but of course many have.
