I've just been for a walk along the seafront and all the benches have have been removed, not a single bench anywhere. Does anyone know why?

I read that they were taken away for the Regatta by DHB and have just been slow in putting them back. They normally leave benches where they are for the event, I have no idea why they changed this year.

Ah yes, I didn't think of the Regatta. That was a lot of work then, just for one day.

Benches wherever they are should not be removed unless they are broken, painting or varnishing could be done on site with the quick drying substances now available.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

They have to be returned to the promenade as most are memorial benches that members of the public have paid for. I wonder if they are stored in the same location as the furniture from the Prince of Wales pier(remember that) which will probably never see the light of day again?

Just had a message through from a friend that wanted to pay for a memorial bench back In 2003. She was told that the cost would be £.700 and it would up to DHB where it would be sited and for how long.

That area controlled by DHB is referred to as Area 52 by us locals

Benches still not back and having checked they are not under tarpaulin at the back of the Town Council offices.

Apparently the benches are undergoing maintenance with priority given to those with plaques and all will be put back by the end of the month.

There they weren't (25 August, pre-Regatta):
And there they were (late yesterday afternoon):

Replacements for rusted fencing. Perhaps DHB can now remove the fencing around the shelters and replace it with something useful, like fresh air.
