Search the forum with Google
- 12 June 2009 15:3523340I expect everybody else knows about this useful feature but I have just discovered it.
I wanted to look back through the forum for a thread about telephone boxes from yonks ago, which I was unable to find. Unless I am missing something, the forum does not have a search facility.
It occurred to me that Google might have a facility for searching an individual website and indeed it does so that solves the problem.
Just go to Google and click on "Advanced Search." Enter "doverforum.com" in the "Search within a site or domain" box at the bottom (no need for the"www"). Then just enter the words you are looking for in the appropriate box and Bob's your uncle. - 12 June 2009 15:4723341Ah well now...I have a surprise for you Ed..we do have a little search engine and very good it is too. havent used it all that much myself but it does deliver on the few times I have. Its on the anchor page(Front of forum) top right below the advert in a delicate shade of grey..so there you are ..enjoy

However, it only searches the Members Club threads, albeit useful.
Stuff hurtles past on the Open Page and there are items I would like to respond to from aeons ago which would take forever to find but which one can use the Google facility to locate.
I would add that a lot of the Members Club threads have non-descriptive titles such as "Cor, blimey" or "Strewth, who would believe it" etc which make going back to a subject a bit hit and miss so the search functions should make life easier - now that I know how to do it!
