I had an appointment at the Orthopaedic clinic at Buckland at 11.10 am. Knowing that Dover had been almost cut off I started ringing the hospital at 09.00 to see if the consultant had been able to get in. After an hour of speaking to people in Milton Keynes, Hampshire and Ashford and getting no joy I decided to try and get to the hospital by taxi.

I had had a local Whitfield taxi driver on standby to take me there, he left his house to pick me up but when he saw the snarl up on the Whitfield roundabout he rang me and told me that he wouldn't be able to get me there. I had walked through a two feet drift on a crutch on my drive to meet him on the road.

I got back indoors and about ten minutes later I had a call from Buckland telling me that the consultant couldn't get in and for me to make another appointment. I have always had good service from Buckland in the past but try getting through to make a simple enquiry and it all falls down. At least they did ring up to let me know but if the taxi could have got through to me I would have gone down there on a wild goose chase.
