Since the shows that we put on at the Town Hall (Tsunami fund raiser) and the (Dover Charities Show) I have thought about trying another show and we would like your input.Just recently I have been talking to Gill Gough who is one of the key organisers of the Regatta and who helped with the 2 shows above and we would value your opinion.
1.Would you like to see a show with a well known comedian or semi well known comedian or a musical type show for intance only an example Connie Fisher type or a Variety show using local talent with a medium size big name.
2.I f we get a medium size face how much would you pay to see the show.
3.What is the best day.Friday night,Saturday night or Sunday afternoon or evening.
We are looking at October and at the Town Hall.Feel free to let us know what you think.
Thank You

Hi John, Firstly what a fantastic idea, you know you have the support of DCAL for your event, and are happy to attend to help raise money on the night.
A comedian is a fairly good idea, but as a family show, it would need to be someone who could tell family jokes, but we could all do with laughter in our lives.
If you could get a good act I think people will pay about £10 but if you could do it for less you would probably get more people in.
Friday is always a good night, and as long as it isn't the 2nd Saturday of October we can do whichever night you decide to go with.
Please let me know if there is anything you think we can help with

Howard because of the cost it wouldn't be a fundraising event, the cost of bringing in a name will be quite high, and because the Town Hall is not a big venue in so far it would help if we could sell say 1000 tickets eg Marlow at Canterbury it would mean taking a financial risk.A face would cost anything from £2500 TO £100,000.
The bigger the name the more it costs.

sounds a bit risky, who would be taking any loss, should it come to that?

Yes it is a gamble that is why it has too be carefully managed, but it is my idea and if there is a loss it is down to me,if there is a surplus then that would go forward to the next show.If it works then we could put on a show say every 6mths.that is upto the people

ps with some adult content.thanks.
It would be great to attract a good stand up to Dover on a Friday or Saturday evening. Comedy is sexy, everyone likes a laugh, and the decent comics are worth shelling out for! I'd go and I don't go out much!

I can reveal the date for our first show is Saturday 05th September 2009 at the Town Hall and we will be hosting a very well known face who is a comedian along side some local acts.
Because I am negotiating contacts and contracts at the moment the names will be revealed in the next week or so,but this person is not only well known but is very very funny, and ticket prices will be reasonably priced.
This show if it works and is taken to by the people of Dover may be the first in a series of Shows and I have taken on board all your comments about dates times and prices................more to come....I can tell you that if you are 35+ and watch a certain Quiz show you will know this Comedian who can sing as well........
