great story this evening.
a couple of local authority employees got rather matey in an office(out of use) with frosted windows.
it transpires that the windows were not frosted enough, a crowd gathered round and sportingly gave them a round of applause at the culmination of activities.
they were employed by "oldham" council!!!!

Read that article. They have both been suspenders sorry suspended pending an inquiry.
That news item was followed by another which stated that northerners should migrate South towards London etc.The findings of some govt sponsored body declared that no matter how much money you pumped into Liverpool to regenerate the area ....that it was a lost cause and the money would be far better being spent on new housing in the South.
Eh up wack!!!Brookside to be renamed Dourside..???
Coronation St to be renamed Windsor St..??
Heartbeat to be renamed..OnNobeat..???

This is a very bizarre story re the Northerners moving South. Really I have never heard anything quite so very weird..and this from a leading 'think tank' called the Policy Exchange.
The Policy Exchange have strong connections with the Conservative Party and no doubt these people are paid huge sums of money to come out with this baloney.
It seems their recent findings state that some northern towns are just beyond fixing, beyond redevelopment, and recommends as the best option, that their populations move south for a better quality of life. Its a sort of self recommendation for ethnic cleansing..eradicate the northerner!! You would normally have to laugh ...but whats worrying is that these people are so serious about it.
I wonder, are the Conservatives distancing themselves from this?

The idea of think tanks is that they often think the unthinkable and result can be some absurdities like this. I do think, however, that there is a serious point obscured by the headline catching - I am just not sure what it is, as I have not read it (and cant be bothered to!!!)
Do we really want a load of Labour voting Liverpudlians invading Dover?

The last lot of Scousers that invaded Dover were recently picked up along with some well known Dovorians by the drug squad and are now passing their time sewing mailbags in Elmley.
How can you say ''Labour voting'' when you look at the recent byelection result in the traditional Labour stronghold of Glasgow. It could well be that Liverpudlians will follow suit and vote Tory.God help them..mind you old Charlie needs all the votes he can muster if he is goig to oust our Gwynfor.

True, Marek - difficult for Labour to muster enough voters these days to fill a phone box.

Gwyn is well established in Dover, I wish Charlie all the best. What's a phone box.

A phone box is where the Local Lib/Dem Party hold their Annual Conference.
Labour have theirs upt'north in Blackpool...a good working mens club area
Conservatives have there's down souf' in Brighton..a good Gay(merry,lively,bright..dictionary def.) area
and the Libs have Dover....

Not quite right Marek as far as Conference venues are concerned. Venues swap around, Conservatives in Birmingham this year.... I dont know which phone box the LibDems are in this year though, there are still a few around, Barry W-S....
being serious again, on the subject of the think tank report.
Charlie has posted on CentreRight this morning and here is an part of what he said.
""""Many will be horrified about PX's report on the Northern cities. I certainly am - the top line strikes me as defeatist and depressing. Yet I think they may have done the country a favour in (re)sparking a debate about the North South divide. This divide is frankly one of the worst features of our country. I've often heard it said that the North has the quality of life, the South the quantity of life. In other words, the South has great wealth, but less time, community and increasingly less beauty as it subsides gently in a sea of concrete and congestion. The North has less material wealth, yet there seems a greater sense of community, more time for people and some of the most heartbreakingly beautiful countryside our nation has to offer. """"""""
Seems a fair enough comment to me.

As much as it pains me..I have to agree with you and Charlie's comments...I must take 2 asprins and go for a lie down in a quiet darkened room. The shock of agreeing with you has made me feel quite pale and giddy...

Well Marek, I would also recommend a good strong tot of the Famous Grouse and to log in to ConservativeHome.com to complete the transition.....
Incidentally, I just found this bit of information..... One of the writers of the PX report, Dr Tim Leunig of the LSE is a leading Liberal Democrat supporting economist!!!! No wonder its a bit mad.
