I`m having a Spanish night the weekend, with music, food and wine. The music and wine is no problem, but I`m after some quick simple ideas for food. I can`t understand the supermarkets not catering for it. Plenty of Indian, Chinese and Italian, but no Spanish. Why? Anyone know any outlets for `Tapas`? Many thanks.

Thanks Bob, I did see info on the internet, but I was more interested if anyone knew where you could buy packs of the stuff locally like you can for countries mentioned above.

Despite the vast array of supermarkets for this poor corner of the world, you won't get Spanish stuff. Best bet would be to hunt around Canterbury, a much better shopping place for that sort of thing, I suspect.
Colin, according to the boss , who has just come home from her dance class (don't ask!), tapas is Spanish for hors d'oeuvre so you can make them up from loads of stuff you can get from local supermarkets?

Colin, I have noticed at Aldi in Cherry Tree Ave that they have a small selection of Spanish Tapas, i.e. Spanish omelette, Serano ham etc. so you could try there.
If you wish to make them yourself Jean has book of Spanish Tapas which you could borrow, which are quite easy to make.
Roger.

Thank you all, and I shall have a peek down Aldi`s tomorrow, and thanks for the book offer Roger. No one has yet answered on the reason for no Spanish dishes in the supermarket`s.

Perhaps that's because all we see are Dover chavettes perhaps?

Tapas are brilliant as they can be made up of anything (smallish) really. They don't need to be particularly Spanish.
Jean's daughter lives in Palma in Majorca - a beautiful City and lots of fantastic restuarants, including some great tapas bars. We visit them quite often when there and enjoy a whole range of different sorts.

Spanish food is sunshine! The wines used to be - rightly - avoided, but they have improved so much, I really like them now. The whole mediterranean meal culture is so great - eating later, taking more time, making it a pleasure conversationally and culturally as well as just eating, inclusive - love it!
Only the weather missing eh Bern?

Thank you all above, I`m still working on it. Nice to see you back Bern, hope you ate well on your win.

Colin, you could try some local farmers to see if they have any bulls testicles. That'd be a nice surprise for your guests!

Thank you all very much, I shall have to go into it all deeper, meanwhile, it`ll be Spanish music and wine tomorrow night with Italian food.

Pasta is a anagram of Tapas Colin so you will be nearly right
It's all a bit Latino anyway! (Am I allowed to say that...?) Enjoy, Colin - a bit of sunshine in a bottle and on a plate. (It's nice to be back in circulation a bit!).

Thank you Bern, and it looks like being a pleasant day out there. A bit of luck, it`ll be warm enough to eat outside,as I`m sure they`ll be a few BBQ`s going later. Interesting observation that MRP, I`ll see if the guest`s spotted it.
