WALMER GREEN EVENT HELPS TAKE THE LEAD IN RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP
A responsible dog ownership event is taking place on Walmer Green by the bandstand on 20 September from 10am until 4pm. The day is being organized by Dover District Council in partnership with Frandham Boarding Kennels, and follows the success of a similar event in Pencester Gardens this summer. There will be a range of information available on responsible dog ownership, pet care and accessories. Environmental Health staff and Dog Wardens will be on hand to give advice on subjects including noise awareness, dog barking, and the importance of clearing up after your dog, and will be giving out free bags to help pick up after your pet. Staff from the kennels will be available to micro-chip dogs at a discounted rate of £14.

16:575955Quite right re the owners Marek.
But to be fair... in recent years responsibilty amongst dog owners has improved greatly. Nowadays its 'de riqeur' to carry around your little plastic bag and they all do it, so good for them. Its a politically correct thing isnt it. Some pc stuff works in our overall favour. Its no longer politically correct to let your dog dump all over the nice new public lawns or gardens or indeed in the high street right outside Boots(for max shoe slithering effect!). So the war has been fought and won...and all very pc. Its touching to see how we have all been re-educated by big brother.

17:155956PaulB. You do try to defend political correctness by extending the definition...........
What you describe is not pc, its social responsibility and its about obeying a law. It no more about political correctness than not stealing, not committing murder, or not vandalising street lights.
If I thought it pc then I would not do it!!!!!

17:195957Ah...indeed. But the act of carrying the plastic bag and cleaning up isnt pc, but the mindset that made them bring the plastic bag in the first place is hewn out of the rock of recent political correctness...otherwise they would always have done it.
Step back in time to the 1960's ( or perhaps best not to) and whats that youve just throd in..aaagh!

19:335972at the end of the day, we do have a lot of dog toffee still, but when you see the amount of people with dogs, the vast majority of owners must be acting responsibly.

19:535973A lot of country side around Dover howard, I would estimate that for every walk I take my dog on, I see one person watch their dog relieve itself then walk on by...

20:495985that is especially sad chris, i suppose that think that they will not be seen in the countryside.
it always makes me laugh, when i see an owner stroll ahead of his or her dog, knowing that the dog is having a dump behind them.
when you own a dog, you get to know their body language, and also where their favourite places are, and start to unravel the polythene bag.
on my rare incursions to the gardens of kearsney abbey, the walk is ruined by having to tip toe around such stuff.
i remember, a few years ago, our paul reporting from his mansion overlooking the beach, about the dog walkers that take their animal to the beach, for that very purpose.
