It certainly isn't.
Apparantly there's an increasing number of people going to Uni without proper grammar and spelling skills.

ohh gents.. now its an advertising panel that is clearly targeting those youths who have just left school and havent decided what to do with their lives, and its advertising UKC in a language and a style that they are familiar with.
Dont start finding pot holes in grammar and spelling, you would be here all day with mine. I just type as I speak!
The trouble is Jenn, those youths will come up against people like me at interview. Well, actually they won't because their c.v. will be so badly constructed I won't bother to see them. Ergo, they will struggle to find work.
So, grammar and spelling are important despite what trendy/leftie teachers may tell you. Sloppiness in the education system is rife and preventing some young adults from getting the career of their choice.
I am a leftie - not trendy sadly - and am passionate about grammar and spelling! I have some CVs that come to me that head straight to the shredder. Not just the grammar and spelling, some can't even be bothered to fill in the supporting statements. And want me to spend my precious time interviewing them? I don't think so! I even have some with coffee stains and unidentifiable stains. Those are picked up with latex gloves and burned!!
When I mentioned syntax to my students the other week they were shocked.
They thought student loans were bad enough.

Hurray for Bern! I thought I was the only person left in the world who really cares about grammar and spelling. And, no, I do not think it is sad. When have we ever said, never mind written, "A" historian? People are actually more likely to say 'nistorian.

Its not just bad spelling and written grammar that annoys me, its being served in shops and cafes by some school leavers by saying " yer wat you want m8" or " that's 2 quid cheers"
