All good traditions Maggie and some things I absolutley love. But like Chris' suggestion of cockles and whelks (both of which I could eat until they come out of my ears) do we actually 'do' these things? It is impossible to buy cockles and whelks in Dover, which upsets both me and my children, although we take full advantage of the winkles down Shakespeare beach.

Along with loving new things, I worry about our traditions (it's the conservative in me (small c)) By the time my son gets to 18, the fact he won't be able to buy 'mild' is one of my big concerns. I love Anne Briggs but does this make English or just a bit of a geek?

As for Fish and Chips , love it! ...although ironically the best I've ever had are from Leo Burdocks!
