Now I have got a few minutes I thought I would give you my thoughts as a St Rad's Resident and a member of the Labour Party and a Cllr.First of all I do not attack anyone for standing as it is a hard job, with no reward. But here are a few things that I would like to say.
.Sorry Mandi you did well but you got it wrong about Gwyn,he has been out with every bi-election since I have known him,he was in Tower Hamlets when I stood and I and Labour supporters all try and get out to support the Candidate.
.I live in St Rads, yes in a corner but Buckland Ave is hardly a minor road filled with Labour Supporters,so why did I not recieve 1 leaflet from any of the Indies, the Blues and Yellows came round.
.Why is it that although I am a Labour Cllr do every other party think that my wife is a Labour member, she isn't a member but makes up her own mind and votes Labour.
.Turnout,Sue I think you were right and wrong, turnout was low but it was a cold wet October day,yet 746 people went out of their way to vote because they care.By the way the last bi-election in the summer of 2006 led to 515 people voting so it was improved on the last election.
.The Labour vote in that election was 284 this time 244,there were 6 candidates this time but in 2006 there were 3 Lab,New Party what happened to them and one Indy,so thereas a lot more choise this time, and it WAS a difficult time for Labour but we are seeing that we are now restoring things and people will come back.
.I have never know so much effort going to fight a bi-election by all the 3 main parties, and so many leaflets delievered I have covered a bedroom wall with the Libs.
.Well done to everyone who stood, some will be disappointed and some happy with the results, the important thing is we need someone to fight for St Rads.
.This was a Town Council election based on local Civic and Ceremonial events and yes Chris I appreciate what the Town Council do and can do,but reading the leaflets you would have though it was an vote for a General Election,
.It was good to see the Libs and the Blues squabbling over who said what and when, proper electioneering.
.Congrats to Viv a lady who I know and I also know she will do her best for St Rads.
    John
