I thought that was a joke but it turns out that subway only use halal meat, they won't see me in one of their establishments in future.

I have been there a few times, they always offer a choice of 4 types of bread, all of which have the same taste and texture - bland. the fillings are ok but nothing special.
they have really shot themselves in the foot on this one, not gauging the mood of the british public.

interesting try from the pr people at our American friends, the facts are these.
The food must come from a supplier that uses halal practices. Specifically, the slaughter must be performed by a Muslim, who must precede the slaughter by invoking the name of Allah, most commonly by saying "Bismillah" ("In the name of God") and then three times "Allahu akbar" (God is the greatest). Then, the animal must be slaughtered with a sharp knife by cutting the throat, windpipe and the blood vessels in the neck (while the animal is conscious), causing the animal's death without cutting the spinal cord. Lastly, the blood from the veins must be drained.

The Dover branch is not a Halal outlet, Howard. You may put away your righteous indignation.

Most small food businesses get much of their meat from a certain cash and carry chain. Although we always sourced our meat from Aylesham Butchers or Cappers, we once had a party of lawyers for an office Christmas dinner, one of whom was a strict Muslim. He told me that as well as turkey, we could offer a halal chicken alternative, and that Bookers had halal chicken.Off I toddle to Folkestone and asked where they keep the halal chicken. "It's all halal, mate. So's the lamb. Otherwise the Indian restaurants won't touch it."

i'd heard that now the major supermarkets are saying that all their meat is halal which means that 95% of the population have to adhere the religious laws of 5%.
The food industry gets away with far too much and they should be forced to clearly mark products as halal and non halal.

All I will say is that the supermarkets also sold beef products that were horse so how do we know this halal statement is true.

not forgetting recent findings on lamb in take aways being something different a lot of the time.
the supermarkets are saying(like subway) that the animals are stunned prior to ritual slaughter, if so then it is not halal at all.
