07:1526936It'll be sad if SeaFrance go down the toilet - all those people will be laid off.
Maybe their French union didn't help them very much - use English ones, they seem to be much less militant.
The people who work for SeaFrance at Whitfield and on the ships must be getting fed up with those at SNCF.
Hope they can resolve their problems, it would/could also of course put people off of booking with them as they may go bust and they'd lose their booking money, plus all the aggravation of re-booking etc. etc.

07:3326945This is a thread in itself
(militant unions)
The car industry as Barryw pointed out has always had its problems, maybe not helped by the unions at the time, but most unions learnt a lot from those days, and my ex union the RMT learnt to become more democratic in the way it operated.
My present union UNISON went the same way.
What we have now is the tables have turned completely and the workforces trodden on (that is if your lucky enough to hold on to a job)
Managers/unions need to work in patrrnership, its when you get to that point of disagreement between the 2 as to what happens next.
ACAS I have been involved with as a trade unionist, but it needs to have more teeth and be binding on both parties.
Need to find solutions to these problems
