The only factor here is, there is no elected government to replace him.
My information tells me that the Israeli Military have noted Syrian forces being pulled back from the areas neighbouring the Golan Heights controlled by Israel, to be put in place elsewhere, and fundamentalist groups infiltrating the area in their absence.
These fundamentalists, who the Israelis describe as global jihadists, could have an agenda of attrition with Israel. Then there is the question,of what will happen to the chemical arsenals in Syria, and the weapons of the military, if all and sundry get hold of them.
