Just been looking for things to do locally.
Fantastic designed web-page from Thanet, sorely tempted.

Got this e-mailed from Folkestone. Design crap in comparison but at least there's stuff going on.

So what's the advertising like from Fort Whitfield?

Surely there's someone out there who can write half decent HTML?

the other side of the coin bob is that if they do a "sexy" new website, people will scream "look what they are spending our council tax on now".
Howard, neither the Thanet nor the Folkestone sites were council run.
I did not wish to make any criticism of local 'amateur' web sites, thinking that one should not shoot the pianist if he is trying his best (unless of course one has paid for the performance!)

bob
the point i was making was that people do not like to see a council website looking too snazzy, they start to think that it would have been expensive.
as you say if people do websites out of their own pockets then we should not make any criticism.

You need to look at the main tourism site really
http://www.whitecliffscountry.org.uk/Been nice knowing you :)
Paul. Just have. That was pretty dire too!
Have to agree with Bob. Areas of the site do not work i.e. images don't load and videos don't complete. Some of the video contents are now out of date.
I must declare and interest here as I was invited by WCCP to provide a quote for a PR video, and said quote made provision for annual updates, but alas wasn't accepted. Doesn't look as though the one they went with covered updates.
Simples. Most schools teach web design as part of ICT (I know as I ended up teaching it myself).
Most Universities have a degree course in Multimedia (Uni of Kent certainly does).
Set up a competition for the best web page design for students. £500 first prize, £250 second.
Geeks write code for peanuts (so what's new).
Loads of free publicity. Nice buzzy cutting edge web page. Change from £1000.
(Much better value than Nigel and his caddy going to St Andrews. If it REALLY only cost £800. Having looked at the return rail fares to Leuchars, I can only presume they were sharing a tent at night on the 13th green and living on tatties! Dreadful place healthwise Scotland. I was reading about some Libyan bloke who left there and has has a new lease of life.)

The DDC Community Directory is intended to be a simple and clean site. Most of the content is written and added to the site by the event organisors themselves

It can also depend on whether you are looking for what events are going on, or what there is to see and do - historic sites, museums and attractions etc.
Dover District has more historic sites, museums and attractions than any other local area, from say, Southend to Southampton, so there should be no excuse for the whole area not being full all year round - yes I know, most places are closed in the winter, but they will always open for groups of visitors.
