Just to let you know that Dave Flynn's marvellous The Allotment restaurant yesterday (Sunday) received a very favourable review from The Observer's notoriously hard-to-please food critic Jay Rayner (think AA Gill with fewer of the Hunter S Thompson flourishes and worse tailoring).
Under the headline 'Dover soul', The Allotment received a full page review in the Observer magazine - the restaurant of the week, in other words.
Congratulations to Dave and his excellent staff on what is a real feather in the cap for a superb restaurant. The Allotment does the town a great service by doing things properly and with a wonderfully understated style and panache. It has really raised the bar, and it'd be nice to see other establishments following suit.
