A friend of mine, who takes a walk down to the end of the Prince of Wales pier most days if the weather is suitable, discovered a poor soul who had hung himself inside the lighthouse last Tuesday.
He happened to look through the window and saw feet hanging in the air, he noticed that the padlock that was usually on the door wasn't there and the door was slightly open. He opened it and discovered the body hanging there. He rang 999 and the police were there within minutes.
I have never seen anything about it on the TV news or newspapers. I suppose these days it is MPs expenses that are hogging the headlines.

such a waist of life.i hope your friend is ok alec.
Alec, I am so sorry your friend had to experience that, it must have been a shock. And the poor fella who hanged himself must have been so desperate. What a sad experience. And yes, brian, what a sad state when MPs greed and arrogance is more important than a human beings desperation and despair.

Yes very unfortunate. There was a story in the papers only very very recently of a similar suicidal incident on the Prince of Wales pier when some chap was threatening to throw himself in the sea but if I remember correctly the police were able to save this chap. It seems to be an area for suicides. I have in the past had the unfortunate experience of seeing a suicide below my window here at Boland Towers with a 45 year old woman...approx 45...jumped in the sea at high tide. Not very nice at all. I was looking out to photograph a ship or something. Very disturbing.

i can only think that the finder of the body has been encountering mightmares.
how sad that the victim came to the end of his tether and was unable to talk to anyone about it.
In a previous life I have had to cut people down more than once. It never gets any easier.
