  CBP's history of the Burqa is a little wide of the mark, the wearing of hijab, burqa, niqab etc came about from a social elite of women wanting to express there status, long loose clothing is purely the most comfortable and cool clothing in hot climates.
  There are at least two references to covering up in the koran and it is how these are interpreted that is a huge topic of debate amongst Islamic scholars.
  Surveys in the East and West suggest most Muslim women choose to cover up for various reason to do with culture, religion and self expression of course some are dictated to by the fathers, brothers, husbands and sons but this is seen to be a minority.
  
  While I agree the Burkini is a ridiculous garment I believe it is up to the individual.
