DDC Events Committee actively prevent the fair from being in town in the week leading up to carnival. Both companies who bring the fairs to Dover are very happy to come in the week leading up to carnival and they too don't understand why Dover is the exception.

One reason given by DDC EC is they like to spread the events out over the summer, but if that were true there wouldn't be a fair at Deal or Aylesham in carnival week. Deal carnival attracts huge crowds, the seafront is a hive of activity until late at night with bars and take-aways etc., doing a roaring trade; that is denied to Dover by the DDC EC.

Oddly enough, when it comes to Regatta week, having a fair in town isn't an issue. Double standards methinks.
