The hell of Folkestone Road

  Come friendly bombs...
  
  Tuesday: they pointlessly dig up road with Nazi wonder-weapon style machines. Wednesday: resurface road. Ditto. Thursday: Neanderthals with drills are digging up the road again. Incessant din since 8.15. Seems we are back to paying people to dig holes and fill them up again just to give them something to do.
  
  They have been digging up the road since September here. And all for what? Prettier pavements and a new road surface that wasn't even needed. The endless drilling is totally intolerable.
  
  Those who take decisions to make local residents' lives a misery should try coming to live here. I am getting out and considering shutting down my business as work is impossible here. Well done local councils, killing enterprise and disrupting lives.
  
  Meanwhile the takeaway at the old Renaissance pub gamely keeps getting ready for opening despite not getting planning permission...
  
  Folkestone Road..it isn't for for humans now.
  
  At least not in places.

  I disagree that it didn't need resurfacing. It has been one of the worst stretches of road in the town for years. If you had ridden a motorbike on that road in the rain you would know what I mean. It really wants doing right up to Maxton!
  
  Obviously my estimate of one week before they dug it up again was wildly inaccurate!

  the road surfacing is for only 4 days, all the rest of the work is related to the revamped railway staion.
  
  i am all for any improvement, even with all the disruption

  I agree that the disruption has been a pain in the backside, especially for road users (which I am), but made very little difference if you're a predestrian (which I have been recently).
  
  The works have dragged on and on but I understand are scheduled to finish middle of March, so that's something to look forward to.
  
  The road surface along Folkestone Road is/was terrible and I'm very pleased that so much of it is being resurfaced.

  Whilst Folkestone Road is closed to traffic vehicles are diverted via Eaton Road, but what do I espy outside the Boars Head on Eaton Road? Why its road works restricting traffic to one lane. There are no excuses to excuse the incompetence of the planners at the Highways Department and I mean no excuses, they are totally incompetent.

  Thanks for the offer Roger. It's well documented between me and KCC - it's simply been impossible to work at all for periods over the last few months and I have to question my work-from-home location as a viable one for a business.
  
  Then there's the hidden effect on people's health, especially those who do not speak up for themselves...
  
  Fair comment to say that the road needed doing, Phil, and a four day job like that is tolerable. It is the FIVE MONTHS (and counting) that it has taken overall that are really grating on everyone.
  
  The pavements do look prettier but aren't worth the noise and disruption and the months the job is taking.

  I haven't been that way in a while - the disruption and temporary traffic lights put me off bringing the truck down that way to avoid possible queues on Townwall Street - so my sympathies to those who live and work in the area. Next time I'm out on two wheels and the road has reopened I'll go and have a look for myself.

  It's reopened this evening when I came home from work, although the traffic lights by the station are still there.
  
  It takes such an age for the lights to change now they have 3-way lights - coming out of the station, seems a bit unnecessary as they could filter out quite safely without these lights.
