This has all been going on for so many years that I suspect a titbit is thrown to the masses every so often to give them a glimmer of hope that there will ever be an end to it. For years there was going to be a supermarket, then Wetherspoons were going to build a Lloyds No.1, then the whole thing transmogrified into a flint wall with some white sheds behind it.

Presumably the cinema multiplex will replace one of the white sheds. Since we have been told repeatedly that Dover has only half a hinterland, the rest being fish, and said hinterland is largely rural with a scattering of villages, then it is difficult to fathom why an entertainment investor would be any more interested than ASDA or Wetherspoons were.

The first part of the DTIZ to be completed is supposed to be the Travelodge hotel on Woolcomber Street. According to the link below from just over a year ago, Travelodge contemplated completing this by Spring 2013. They will need to get a move on or risk being gobbled up by the sprawling entertainment complex.

Incidentally, this design looks just about as cheap and nasty as you can get, and designed to last twenty or thirty years whereupon the whole regeneration charade starts again, regenerating regeneration. With the blank exterior, small windows, and rounded ends, it reminds me irresistibly of the American caravans which have been manufactured by Airstream since the 1930's.
