The river dour along by Barton Path it looks so over gown, there is not of the river showing it is full of weeds. When I was growing up you could see so much more of the river it has got to the stage where some of the path is being taken over by the weeds. Was there a team of people who use to clear out the river a few times a year, they always did a very good job,do they not do this anymore.

The WCCP volunteers still do a clean up monthly outside of the spawning season, they can only do one section at a time and I suspect the river is having the same problems as my garden once the drought finished and triffid like plants growing like mad.

As far as I know they still do this but it does not seem to be as often. I know the plant life is important for the fish but there is so much the river is almost invisible at Charlton Green, it is difficult to see the ducks or other wildlife anymore when going past.

Barton Path has been an overgrown eyesore for years. It's just more overgrown than normal at the moment.
Reeds may have been planted to improve the flow, but they are out of control. The nettles and other weeds are never cleared. The path is disappearing and disintegrating in places.
Rubbish may get cleared from the water, but there's no sign of weed removal.
With so little of the Dour walkable, you'd think the powers-that-be would look after it properly.

Indeed. What a splendid project. And DTC have chipped in too apparently. So much better use of public funds than other projects I could mention (says he, risking another ban from this forum).

Let's hope they issue lots of press releases to keep everyone happy!

Walked the stretch earlier from the police station to Pencester Road and the vegetation in the river and on the bank is completely out of control, I have e mailed the Environment Agency and advised them of the situation. On the plus side there are blackberries available for picking either side of the walkway by the college.

A bit like by Morrisons, the river has disappeared when looking from Charlton Green or Maison Dieu Road side all one can see are reeds and bullrushes.

From the "Up on the Downs" website - they last were in the river a month ago yet all this is chucked in over such a short time.
Huge thanks to the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership volunteers who cleaned the River Dour today, 51 full bags, shopping trolleys, boots, sleeping bags, bird feeder, a watch and a bracket were just some of the things pulled out today.
A lot of plastic not going into the river and sea and a cleaner river for #worldriversday this weekend

Environmental Agency flatbed trucks were in Beaconsfield at least a couple of days this week. I observed them full of aquatic weeds and blokes in waders having their lunch. The river along Barton Path has certainly had a bit of a trim. Also the bit by Halfords/opposite The Red Lion.
Completely agree that the bit by Morrisons on the other side of the road is as overgrown af. Looks like a nightmare job and I wouldn't want it. It would be hard to know where to start. Maybe that's why they left it there? I hope they went away to have a think about it , and haven't just given up.
Same with the bit between Beaconsfield and what used to be under the old London Fancy Box Company building. They appear to have left that.
I'd imagine it's hard to get down there to that bit these days. We used to have no problems as kids. Crawling under what was obviously the factory floor, to get to a bit of Dover that hardly anyone ever saw. A Secret Camp. Though that was probably technically trespassing. But kids were allowed to do urban exploring in those days.

Glad to see they were cutting the reeds this morning along by Morrisons, thank goodness the River Dour has reappeared for the winter.
