Saw a friend of mine for the first time since getting back from Nigeria. He has been very ill and has suffered permanent nerve damage, virtually paralysing his right leg and leaving him in constant pain in his back. However, a London surgeon reckons that with the right treatment he may regain full use of his leg in about 2.5 years, but will never be shot of the pain.
So, he applied for two things; Incapacity benefit and an Invalid parking badge. The same medical information, provided by his GP and the London surgeon was sent to both government departments. Four weeks later he received a refusal of incapacity benefit on t he grounds that he could climb a flight of stairs (takes over 30mins) and therefore was not incapacitated. After about 6 weeks his parking badge arrived with confirmation that his disability warranted one. He is appealing the incapacity benefit decision.
Joined up government eh? How many millions wasted on computerisation? It'll be interesting to see how the new boys deal with this type of problem.

He must have Disability Living Allowance Sid as it is a pre-requisite for the Blue Badge. It's unusual (but not impossible) to get both.
I do believe that he needs his Doctor's report too.
There was that disabled soldier who walked the marathon in 24 hours (I think it took two weeks last year), I wonder if he gets incapacity benefit.

SID
I'v appeared representing people at appeals, sometimes you find it's the way people present themselves(not fault of theres) often they will not paint the true picture being to proud to do so.
I represented a lady in a wheelchair who couldn't dress hereself, couldn't walk, couldnt actualy do much at all.
But once into her case I realised she was to proud to say half of these things thus under represented a true picture.
Thankfully i had read up her rights, and what the doctor rep on the appeal was looking for, and won the case outright.
This poor lay had for a long time under represented herself thus kept getting refused.
She was so pleased after the hearing iin Ashford.
