i saw a rather moving item yesterday on CNN about the poverty in a lot of african nations, highlighted as we in the west spend like it is going out of fashion at this time of year.

the story focused on a 12 year old boy in burkina faso, his family live in a village without clean water, sanitation or any medical or educational facilties.

the lad whose name is joseph okukwu is the eldest of the 11 children, so it is his job to travel barefoot for an 8 mile round trip over mountainous terrain each day to collect some clean drinking water.

if we forumites clubbed together, the small sum of £.20 would buy him a pair of trainers so that the lazy little devil could then do 2 trips per day.

    food for thought there.
