To the fire station yesterday afternoon to view a piece of Dover's history. Very soon now a bronze plaque will grace the front wall of the Ladywell station with a similar aluminium version at the harbour.
The man behind the idea is Mike Harmer son of one the George Medal winners Ernest Harmer. He, together with others from the Dover Fire Brigade and the Auxilliary Fire Service bravely fought a fire on a munitions ship during the war. As was stated yesterday, if the ship had exploded, Dover would have looked a very different place.
The plaques being unveiled in front of an invited audience.
