22:4135267almost worth being frozen in for, wonderful programme on channel 4 showing the background work on the great tower revamp.
the enthusiasm for the task from the two chaps from english heritage was infectious, clearly it had taken over their lives while they worked on the project.
fascinating that an english king had so much power back then, was the grandson of william the conqueror and the father of richard the lionheart.
he even uttered the famous words " who will sort out that dodgy vicar".
all this in a town that cannot agree over things like public lavatories.

23:3135268A lovely program Howard. It must have cost a few bob to weave and embroider the tapestries. I must get up there and have a look when the weather gets a bit better.
I had a little chuckle when Tony Robinson said that when King Louis came on a visit Henry had to greet him on the beach as there was no suitable place to entertain him in Dover (that was when he decided to build the castle).
No Funky Monkey or Wetherspoons in those days.

08:3635278Yes indeed a great program.
I didn't realise though, that Henry 11 was French, born in France and died there too; buried over there, along with his wife and son, as Howard said, Richard the Lion-Heart.
Hopefully it will do EH and Dover, much good next year - hope they repeat it.

15:0235325Definitely worth being frozen in for, what a fantabulous programme. I sat and watched it beside a roaring open fire, absolutely loved every minute and enjoyed it immensely. I felt so privileged to live so near to such a wonderful Castle steeped in all its intriguing history and oh! those tapestries!
I won a Family ticket to the Castle at The Mayor's Ball on friday evening so really looking forward to another visit there soon.... a must for all!

17:5235411A really enjoyable programme, loved every minute of it, it was great to see Dover in such a positive light. Well Done to English Heritage, such an informative experience, I'm sure that Dover Castle will benefit with more visitors in 2010
