Here is my latest newsletter:
Good morning
In today's newsletter, I have information of a fund-raising event for Lion-Aid:
www.lionaid.org, a Dover-based charity dedicated to conserve the African lion.
Earlier in the year, there was a darts competition to determine Dover's best darts player and in the process raise funds for Lion-Aid.
There were ten heats and the winners from each of those heats are now going head-to-head to determine and herald, Dover's best and runner-up, darts player.
There is now set to be a grand-final in September to be held at the Bull pub, 168 London Road, Dover.
You are invited to come along to cheer on the players and have great evening in the process. It is also a great opportunity to help raise funds for Lion-Aid.
The Bull Inn are offering free food too and although an entry fee is not possible, people are being asked to donate some money - whatever they feel they can afford.
The event starts around 6.30pm on the 15th September; it has to start early because there are 10 Finalists and lots of legs to complete.
The Landlord and Landlady are putting on complementary food during the evening - I understand there will be curry and various nibbles on offer!
There will also be a raffle - they are looking for prizes, so if you are a local business (or not) and would like to contribute something, please let Lion Aid's local Trustee, Chris. MacSween, know, on 01304 449491.
There is to be an auction of a signed shirt of Phil Taylor's (one of the world's top darts players).
The First and Second prize money is being donated by Leaf Hotels Group - the owners of the Ramada Hotel at Whitfield and the Dover Marina Hotel and Spa on Dover's seafront.
There is the opportunity for businesses to sponsor the match and have some publicity too, so if you own a business or work at one, please do help the Lions and have some publicity - on the night and on the Lion-Aid web-site:
www.lionaid.org
Just an added piece of information about Lions:
There are currently approximately 2,500 adult male Lions in Africa and they are being killed at the alarming rate of 650 a year by trophy hunters - mostly rich Americans.
It doesn't take a mathmatician to work out that it won't take long before the adult male population is decimated.
There are of course cubs, and adolescent (sub-adult) male lions, but it takes a few years to grow into a full adult male lion.
Please do check out the LionAid web-site (www.lionaid.org), there's lots to read and information on how you can help to conserve lions and find out who supports the trophy-killing of wild adult male lions - WWF for one (surprised me too).
Please click on to this link which shows Professor Peter Kat talking about lions and dispelling some of the myths about them and their so called supporters:
There is a lot of rhetoric and dishonesty from many so-called conservation bodies about lions and lion conservation because they are funded, to a great degree, by the trophy hunters and they don't want to lose that funding.
Please help LionAid and please come along to the Bull Pub on September 15th. for a great night.
Kind Regards - have a good week.
Roger
