I suppose I ought to mention that Richard Moffatt is on the box, BBC1 6.30pm.

certainly not an in depth report on the vessel, i expect richard would have reasonably expected more air time.

Thanks guys-the earlier lunchtime report was about 4 times as long with classic footage and film from Teesside. It could be they were backing off so as not to steal the 'One' show's thunder! Typically I laid down about 15minutes of chat- but if there's one thing that broadcasters excel at-it's editing.

seems like terry and myself posted at the same time so i switched off when the one show came on.
should have realised there would have been more to come from somewhere on such an interesting story.

Jan,I can see how you felt that way-but they pitched it just where we wanted it. All the current main stakeholders are based on Teesside-so it's difficult to put down any business markers that are going to commit us at the moment at least until we announce our ownership. We are in talks with all of them and at the moment she's a 3,300ton bona vacantia hot potato. The One Show report was about awareness-my mail box is full and the phone hasn't stopped ringing with offers of help or membership enquiries. Also we have to remember how well loved in the North East 'Dover' was in her guise of the Nightclub Ship 'Tuxedo Royale'. We shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth here.
John Coates our Teesside rep has the river running in and 'our' ship steaming through his veins and it is through him we are to launch our association on Teesside in the not too distant future. Ultimately 'Dover' belongs back in Dover but we have to make her seaworthy first so that it is to share her benefits with our new found friends in the North East.
Never give up...

I am glad that the report was how you wanted it and I certainly hope you get the all funding you need. The more publicity you can get the better I hope a lottery millionaire was watching and will dig deep for you.
I think it was because I already knew about the ship that I found the report a little to light weight if you know what I mean.

Sorry to be negative, but looking at the state of the ship I would have thought the costs of getting this back into service would be unrealistic. Add on the berthing fees and running costs, and I can't see this being a commercially vialbe project. I agree the UK has an appalling track record of maintaining its shipping heritage.

Quite so Kevin-but we do have a plan-and we're working on it.

It will certainly be an ambitious project, Richard, and I wish you all the best. As I say, I have always thought that as an island nation, GB is woefully lacking in its preservation of maritime heritage.
