Today the UKIndependenceParty elected a new leader...Lord Pearson. Lord Pearson is the first leader of a political party since the 1960's to sit in the House of Lords. He is a rather posh speaking individual who was in recent times expelled from the Conservative Party for urging people to vote UKIP. A rather odd thing to do, so not surprised he was expelled. He was clearly disillusioned with the Tories anyway, due to their lack of a clear strategy on Europe. He then washed up on the shores of the UKIP beaches and they no doubt were rubbing their hands with glee having such nobility within their ranks.
UKIP of course have a clear strategy on the EU..they want out...no nonsense..out!
However I think this kind of policy/party appeals to the older generation disturbed by among other things, immigration and integration, and who see anything to do with Europe as a hark back to the misery of long gone times. In an age where party leaders tend to get ever younger, Lord Pearson is no spring chicken.
Although he does replace motormouth Nigel Farage who was/is a relative spring chicken.
Farage, following on from a series of relatively successful stints on the BBCTV's Question Time is now a well known figure, he therefore has his eye on REAL politics and is trying for a seat in Westminster at the next Election. He may just grab some of this misplaced sentiment that the EU is a bad thing.
