I've got a decent sized circle of friends in the U.S. and this topic isn't even mentioned let alone discussed. Most of them remember Exxon Valdez and know accidents happen for whatver reason, or no reason. It's how quickly and thoroughly it's put right that matters. In this case they recognise the difficulties of a major problem at depth under water.
They generally aren't happy with Obama who they see becoming Blair MkII, all spin and no substance. I'd go so far as to say Obama is more popular in Africa than America, but even there we see the beginnings of a dawning of reality. Personally, I like the bloke, he isn't an egotistical warmonger, and that's fine by me.
