23:298897Yes wasnt it .I suppose some bright spark will come on here and stir it .Walter like so many people had to fight for his rights ,just because of his colour .When I was a young girl in the fifties we had several americans stationed in camps near to where I lived .The way the coloured guys were treated was a disgrace .

23:388900I read a quote once, I cannot recall where it was from other than in an issue of History Today, in which the wartime Mayor of a town said that he, "liked having the Americans there but was not sure about the white guys they had brought with them".
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

09:318906A really enjoyable programme, it was interesting how the actor playing Walter took on the role with the common attitudes towards 'men of colour' during the first world war period.

10:158910I enjoyed it too.
I have put a posting on it on the Rememberence thread so don't feel the need to repeat it here.
Good program.
