21:097815 Just read on the arrse website Boris mayor of London stated that from the 2nd of November all disabled ex servicemen or women plus those on a widows pension whether they live in London or elsewhere will receive free travel throughout greater London. Well done that man.

23:037838Coupled with that children under 14 travel free in London. A case of winning support for what is already there. I think I will dig a tunnel to France.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

09:007853Very cynical Chris, and wrong... This goes much further than what you suggest, read:
"""""""""""""The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today announced that injured war veterans in London are to receive free travel on the capital's transport network, whether they are residents or visitors, in recognition of their service to the country. He made the announcement as he joined hundreds of British army war veterans, their families and friends, as he launched an annual Veterans Day event in Trafalgar Square to celebrate the contribution that servicemen and women make to society and to pay tribute to their outstanding courage and bravery.
From 2 November all war veterans in receipt of a pension under the War Pensions Scheme or the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme, including war widows and widowers and eligible dependents, will be able to travel for free on Transport for London bus, Tube, tram, Docklands Light Railway and London Overground services. The Train Operating Companies have also backed the Mayor in agreeing that war veterans will be able to travel free on their services within Greater London.
NOTE---------The new scheme will particularly benefit the estimated 2,600 war veterans, war widows and widowers aged under 60 living in London who are not eligible for a freedom pass. On average, they are expected to save around £200 each a year. -----------NOTE
This will be particularly useful in enabling wounded service personnel to travel to receive medical treatment, as well as making life easier for the significant number of veterans who battle with post-traumatic stress and other mental health problems."""""""""""""

09:527858An excellent idea in principle and a sure fired headline grabber but
1.How many injured war veterans are capable of travelling on Londons overcrowded transport network.
2.What will the veterans have to produce in the way of evidence that they are indeed a war veteran, as some may be suffering from what my WW1 uncles referred to a 'shell shock' now called Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome? I think.I hope the veterans ,a proud band of men and women, won't find it demeaning.
3.Finally he should allow ALL veterans free travel on London Transport on the 11th November and Rememberance Sunday.

09:587860Agreed about 11/11 Marek.
These matters are being discussed extensively by serving and ex forces people including those who are pensioners and disabled themselves. It does get a very big thumbs up which in itself says a lot and these are the people who will be much more aware of these issues than any of us.
Take a look on ARRSE (ww.arrse.co.uk) and see for yourself.
