Announced today, the new Cabinet will be taking a 5% pay cut; as the title suggests, it's a start, and I applaud the new Prime Minister for implementing a policy that will not make a huge difference to the national debt, but does at least set an example. Not that the members of the new Cabinet will notice anyway, since none of them were on a ministerial salary until yesterday!
I suspect that 'pay cut' is a phrase we'll all be hearing plenty of in the months to come, and to cut ministerial pay before any of the new ministers will have felt the impact is a clever move by David Cameron, very astute.
