The old Hoverport area is being used as a platform to prefabricate elements required for the refurbishment and extension of Berth 6 on the Eastern Docks. Once the relevant elements have been completed they will be picked up by a heavy lift floating crane and transported over the harbour for installation.

The old Berth 6 A Frame was recently lifted over the pier by a crane. I had the pleasure of watching this exciting event late one night. There was not a lot of room for left for error despite the high tide and I thought they did a cracking job. If you walk along the pier you will notice part of the wall was unfortunately sacrificed in the process. It looks as if the old berth has been dismantled now. Well done to the workers, I was amazed to see how efficient and organised they were!

We Done a birth over at the Westside years ago then we went over to the Eastern docks and made the blocks so the birth could fit in them, they then removed the wall and the came over we had the crane all in place for the lift, and when we lifted the birth to place it in the bocks, you are right the blocks were in the wrong place,so when they the birth in place,we had to work allday and night and builed the blocks around it,some red faces about, but they were not ours, the plans were wrong. Hope they got it right this time.

It's shame that some of the beach has to go to make way for this. One day the eastern and western docks will meet.

if only Howard... I dread the new look of the Harbour as there will be no beach left for locals :( I guess we just have to wait and see ...
