Not really surprised that the hounds have been put down. Would not have expected touchy-feely concern for their welfare from people whose idea of amusement is to ride around the countryside chasing a small animal for the pleasure of seeing it torn to pieces. Not the sort of people to visualise funding a home for retired foxhounds to live out their lives happily after being used for their rather obscene gratification. Easier to slaughter them and blame the soft old animal lovers - "look what you made us do!" The argument that hunting should be continued so that the hounds could still be employed is a bit like saying that the concentration camps should have been kept going so that the guards could still be in a job.
