    Well might we ask.

We have seen Labour crash to well below 20% worse than their lowest expectations.

They even came second in Wales for the first time since 1918.

They have no MEPs in the South West and many areas are Labour free zones (lucky them).

In many places they have come 5th or even 6th in the poll.

These have been the worse set of result for Labour since they became more than a group of TU sponsored candidates.

For them it is a disaster.

Could this be the start of a new re-alignment in UK politics? If the Government hang on in office to the last minute that might well be what will happen. If they go to the country sooner and accept a crushing defeat then they may be able to re-build in opposition, or they may not. Perhaps after the longest ever period of Labour Government ending in such a disaster for this country they will be consined to minor fringe party status forever more.
