  Idealistic Bern, and probably only works for a relative few.
  
  Going from an unqualified fruit picker or roadsweeper to a qualified better paid position is almost impossible in our society. We are hidebound by levels of degree rather than ability to do a job. Consequently many are disenfranchised by their own people, HR types usually.
  
  As Keith rightly points out, in today's climate most are grateful for what they can get first and then worry about career enjoyment and progression last.
