The post you are reporting:
Thanks Roger. Yes, my comments on the political section was indeed directed at the Government as a 'body corporate' in respect of how the troops are abused, something I feel particularly strongly about, not at any individual or any Labour supporters on the forum.
Look around folks, look at some of the links on politicshome.com and you will see much nastier things being said of the Government. Some of the revelations in recent biographies are staggeringly cruel and personal and thats against former friends....
I avoid personal attacks on 'forumites', though I have regularly been subject to that from various sources and I dont bleat on about being offended, though I have sometimes bitten back. As far as I am concerned if you put your head above the parapet then you can be shot at and that includes any Government (or Opposition), me and anyone else.
I have posted before, in general terms, about the tendancy of people to claim to be 'offended' and this obsession, in so many aspects of life, to avoid offending. People can take offense too easily these days, but its not something that actually hurts you, I see it as part of the pc culture that can be so destructive. Part of what I said at the time in that respect was that it is good to be offended, be grateful, because you know you are alive and not brain dead. My response to Dave was with that in mind. I could have been very scathing in response instead but I actually did not want to get personal!
Dont get me wrong, I am not suggesting there should be carte clanche for anyone to offend anyone, things can be taken too far. I certainly do not see harsh words against a Government over an important issue such as this as being excessive. Just look at some of the things said about Mrs T in the past, some of it has been quite evil but I dont get on a high horse claiming to be offended, I just place a reasoned counter argument.
It seems, having not previously been involved, I got drawn into this already overheated thread somehow and I really dont see the relevance to my comments in the political section.
So yes, lets all lighten up a bit and keep the politics to that section.
