I have noticed for sometime now there are fewer posters on here?I see Paul Watkins posts on here when he has a news item.Ken Tranter has gone also Nigel.
Tomorrows Cabinet paper looks interesting government proposes FREE swimming for over sixties and will also consider FREE for children Its the usual story a grant will be given but not enough to cover the loss of income This keeps happening wonderful schemes with not enough supporting finance.Look at the Kent Freedom Pass.Someone has to pay at the end of the day.

i think that the fuhrer has to be careful what he posts, one wrong word and the local media(and me) will be onto it.
ken has abdicated from public life.
nigel should be posting, but doesn't, i have seen him a few times in town, but he is normally with other people, so that i cannot "collor " him.
susan
i thought that parents paid for the kent freedom pass??

19:115523Yes Howard the parents do pay £50 but think about it it doesnt cost the cover of Stage coach bus services .Like The over sixties pass someone has to make up the difference .Bern is correct the government give us some funding but the local tax payer pays the rest .Its alright to say Free but someone pays .

I don't think anybody has called this pass 'free'.It's a Free-dom' bus pass which may be causing some confusion. The other points worth considering are (a) just think of the interest that Stagecoach will receive on all the £50 being paid in advance and (b) the man hours saved on counting endless £1 coins and change plus (c) the saving on transportation of said coins to the bank. So it's not all doom and gloom for Stagecoach.I just hope that when this pilot scheme was discussed that the above points were taken into consideration with regard as to how much recompense Stagecoach should be paid.

20:535534Are we thinking the over 60s should be grateful for the bus passes? I don't think so!!! A measure of a society is how it treats the vulnerable and the elders. Our elders have paid in spades.....and not only financially.

22:155538Yes I do use my bus pass Howard .In fact I had to pay £1 80 to get into town today as it was before 9.00am then I used my pass to get To Whitfield DDC office then back into town with pass then home to River with pass at 5.15pm.So i actually saved £ 10 on taxis which I can claim for .Some principles Howard .
