Just found this rather interesting image from April 1916 and taken from a German reconnaisance aircraft. It's not the Whitfield site, but is still a good and unusual photo. The submarine pens are at the bottom of the picture and the aerodrome at the very top (labelled 'g'). the seven white dots at the top of the photo are aeroplanes. The structure on the left is the now demolished barracks and military prison.
It helps give an idea as to where the Langdon base was located.
