Thanks Andy - that's just a brief overview but I didn't want to clog up the thread with lots of detail. I have compiled a list of events and other important dates along with a few clippings and eyewitness reports (thanks to Paul and a helpful lady at the Discovery centre).

By the way, I'm undecided if the Aerodrome was triangular or encompassed the whole field, but a public footpath ran right the way across it. Trouble is, the more I look at it, the less convinced I am that's the right field. I based that field on a letter to the DE fom Ray Cook in June 1971 that describes it as being 300 yards NW of Archer's Court School. But, when was our current Archer's School built? Could he have been referring to another building or even the Manor house if that was used for that purpose?

He also noted that it lay on turf meadows belonging to G & A Clark Ltd. David Collyer noted it was behind the Archer public House, and if Mr Cook was indeed referring to the manor, it would indeed place the aerodrome in once triangular field behind the pub. The Times noted it was 'opposite Archer's Court'.

Below is alternative scenario 1. This means most of the Pathe film was shot facing south. Trouble is, the hedges don't match up well with my 1908 map. I'm getting confused...
